Savory Bread Pudding

Ingredients
  • 8 ounces slightly stale bread, torn into 2 inch pieces
  • ¾ cup grated cheese, of your choice such as Swiss, cheddar, goat or combination
  • ½ cup of finely chopped mixed fresh herbs, including scallions or chives
  • ¼ cup chopped ham
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 7 large eggs
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Butter a 9 x 12 baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the bread pieces with the cheese, herbs and ham.
  4. Spread in baking dish. In a large bowl whisk the milk, eggs, salt and pepper.
  5. Pour over the bread mixture.
  6. Bake the bread pudding in the middle of the oven for 45 minutes or until golden brown and set.
  7. Serve hot.
